Local government often gets relegated to the background of the news. Budget discussions, zoning ordinances – it can feel like a world of jargon and acronyms. But beneath the surface lies a network of dedicated individuals, the unsung heroes who shape our communities in tangible ways. Enter We Love Govs, a collaborative effort by CONNECT, Civically Inc., and PUMP, that is aiming to change the narrative.
Weaving Local Tales with Expertise
We believe in the power of storytelling. By showcasing the people behind the policies, We Love Govs reveals the human element of local government. Helping us executive this mission is Janine Michael, a seasoned visual storyteller. With her impressive background, including 11 years on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Janine brings a unique blend of entertainment and local focus.
Engaging Content for Engaged Citizens
To give a taste of what is to come, our promo video premiered at the start of the September 12 Legislative Session (check it out on our website if you missed it). You might have seen Marita Garrett, CEO of Civically and a talented We Love Govs host, interviewing our members during the reception.
We Love Govs is working on several different segment ideas that aim to provide an entertaining look into local government, as well as highlight the individuals who make it happen and demystify how the audience can get involved.
- As the Borough Turns: One-on-one chats with local government staff. We translate complex local government issues into digestible, engaging pieces, empowering you to understand your community’s inner workings.
- Former Mayors Round Table: The opportunities and challenges faced by former mayors in our region.
- Coffee with Council: Getting to know the faces behind local government
- Tee Off: Interviews at community sports and network events.
- Meet the Helpers: Celebrating inspiring stories of individuals making a difference through local engagement, by interviewing volunteers at community events.
- Interview: À la Andy Warhol Interview magazine, municipal officials and staff interview each other, make connections and share their experiences.
